Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui Province, is applying for the state-level status for a wetland park by the Chaohu Lake, one of China's five freshwater lakes, Anhui Business Daily reports.

Stretching from the lake in the south to the Binhu Avenue in the city proper, the park is intended as a wetland reserve as well as a tourist spot and a place for popularization and education of science.

The park consists of several plots of wetland like Luxi, Tongyanghe and Jiguhe.

In addition, the city plans to do the same to two other wetland parks – Dongjing Wetland Park in Feidong County and Luyang Wetland Park in Luyang District.

The former, covering an area of 476.65 ha, is emerging as the "backyard garden" of the county. The latter, situated between Sanguocheng Road and Dongpu Reservoir, the city's major water source, is expected to be completed in 2020.
