Pub Date: 14-05-16 14:43 Source: www.ah.gov.cn

Two finless porpoises were born in the reserve on May 4 and 10 respectively. According to Dr. Chen Ran, it's difficult to raise finless porpoises. They began to raise and breed this species in the Jia River, semi-natural waters, in 2001. The finless porpoise is a species of rare aquatic mammals living in freshwater and a state class II protected species in China. They live mainly in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Poyang Lake and Dongting Lake. The number of this endangered animal is only about 1,000 in China.
