The Ministry of Science and Technology has approved the Anhui provincial government's plan on nurturing Anhui into an innovation-oriented province, local authorities said on Tuesday.
The province is the second in China to pilot the national program for development of innovation-oriented provinces, following Jiangsu province, said the Department of Science and Technology of Anhui.
The program is launched by the ministry to promote innovation-driven development strategy at the regional level and indispensable for speeding up the development of an innovation-oriented country.
Over the past few years, the province has enhanced innovation capacity, boosted creative industries and attracted many innovative human resources.
The provincial government will carry out the program under the guidance of the ministry. It will encourage enterprises engaged in eight leading industries to make technological breakthrough and to raise their technical innovation capability and industrial core competitiveness. Meanwhile, technology will be made full use of to safeguard and improve people's welfare.
The Integrated Reform Pilot Area of Hefei-Wuhu-Bengbu Independent Innovation, a large national platform offered to the province by the State Council, will play a leading role and act as a model in implementing the program.
Related policies will be mapped out and ancillary facilities improved.
