China's vice minister of agriculture called for vigorous yet steady efforts to promote rural reform while addressing the 13th National Forum for Village Heads held in Fengyang county, Anhui province, between Saturday and Sunday.
Zhang Taolin urged rural officials to carry out rural reform in an active but sound way, to increase vigor for rural development and to keep up the good momentum for agriculture, rural areas and farmers.
The forum, China's sole state-level communication platform for village chiefs, had been held 12 times. In the 13th year, it was hosted by Fengyang county, known for the Village of Xiaogang which pioneered the country's rural reform in 1978.
More than 400 rural officials attended the event. On top of exchanging views on issues related to rural reform, they selected ten outstanding rural heads and another ten with feats. Meanwhile, some economically developed villages reached cooperation agreements with Xiaogang Village at the forum.
Speaking at the event, Li Jinbin, governor of the province, said Anhui will carry forward the "spirit of Xiaogang" to deepen reforms in agricultural operational systems, rural property ownership, rural financial systems and urban-rural integration.
The forum came after the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, which focused on deepening China's all-round reform.
