Four fishermen in Anhui discovered the wreckage of an American fighter plane, probably a "Flying Tiger" B-25 bomber in the Yangtze River on Wednesday.

According to the Anhui Daily, a provincial newspaper, the wreckage is likely to belong to a B-25 bomber, part of the American volunteer group the "Flying Tigers," during World War II.

Historical materials show that in 1943, a B-25 bomber crash-landed near the Yangtze River, and all four crew members died during the accident.

In 2007, a relative of the bomber pilot went to Anhui to look for witnesses of the accident.

Materials provided by relatives of the pilot and the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration prove that the crash occurred 15 km west of Anqing, and 2 km east of Dongliu Town, Chizhou City, Anhui Province, across the river.
