More than 30 tourism planning organizations from home and abroad gathered in Hefei, capital city of Anhui province Tuesday to present their blueprints for two thermal spring resorts.
As part of Hefei's effort to enhance its image as the hot spring capital of China and to boost the thermal spring tourist industry, Bantang and Tangchi, the province's two most famous hot springs, will be fully developed in accordance with their respective features and functions.
That was the reason why Hefei Urban Planning Bureau opened a meeting on February 28 to sift through bidding applications.
Five out of 31 bidders made the cut. Some of them are foreign or joint ventures. Their proposals will need further examination after the meeting. Authorities said the final plan for Bantang and Tangchi international thermal spring resorts will be released in middle April.
Bantang is among China's four ancient thermal springs, together with Huaqing Pool in Shaanxi province, Lushan Mountain Hot Spring in Jiangxi province and Guangdong province's Conghua Hot Spring. The Bantang international holiday resort is designed to cover an area of 29.83 square kilometers.
The other hotwell-themed resort is in Tangchi township, known for its Gold Peacock Thermal Spring as well as a buddhist mountain- Mount Zhifu and a graveyard for Zhou Yu, a legend in the Three Kingdoms period (220-280).
