Meteorological Authority in East China’s Anhui province issued the first yellow alert for this summer on Wednesday, as a heat wave is sweeping across the province.

Temperatures reached between 34 and 39 degrees Celsius in areas along and to the north of the Huaihe River yesterday, with the highest at 38.8 degrees Celsius in Suzhou city, said the Anhui Provincial Meteorological Center.

Hefei, the provincial capital, saw temperature hit 34.4 degrees Celsius.

The center forecast that temperatures will hover around 36 degrees Celsius during the upcoming three days.

People in affected regions are advised to take precautions against heat stroke.

It will be sunny and cloudy across the province in next few days, the meteorological center said, adding that showers or thunderstorms will hit the southern part of the province starting June 17.

China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
