Nature Publishing Group has updated the latest Nature Index recently, ranking the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) as the top university in China.
Based in Hefei, capital of East China’ s Anhui province, the USTC took the 8th spot in the world, following Harvard University, Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, according to the Nature Index tables (May 1, 2019 - April 30, 2020).
Peking University ranked 12th among the world’s top 100 universities and scientific research institutes, followed by Tsinghua University and Nanjing University.
Chinese Academy of Sciences topped the list of the global leading research institutions.
Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sun Yat-sen University, Fudan University, and Nankai University were also among the top 100.
The Nature Index rates institutions and countries according to the number and quality of research publications across 82 of the world’s leading science journals, including journals within and outside the Nature Publishing Group.
