Hefei, capital of East China’s Anhui province, took the 10th place in a list ranking the country’s 72 innovation-based cities in terms of innovation capacity in 2019. The Ministry of Science and Technology and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China released two reports monitoring and reviewing the cities’ annual innovation capacity on December 29, 2019, respectively. According to the reviewing report, Shenzhen in Guangdong province was the most innovative city, followed by Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, and Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province. Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, Jiangsu province’s Suzhou, Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province, Changsha, capital of Hunan province, Xiamen in Fujian province, and Hefei were also among the top ten. These cities boasted rich resources and favorable landscape for innovation. Sci-tech innovation strongly supported economic and social development as well as well-beings. It became the leading driving force behind the growth of these cities, the report said. The reports were based on statistics and surveys from national authorities including the National Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance.
