East China’s Anhui province saw its gross preschool education enrollment rate, gross senior secondary education enrollment rate, gross college enrollment rate higher than the the national average in 2019, local authorities said at a press conference on Thursday.
The gross preschool education enrollment rate stood at 88.7 percent, higher than the national average of 83.4 percent. The completion rate of the free nine-year compulsory education was 94.6 percent, almost the same as the national level. The gross senior secondary education enrollment rate reached 89.6 percent, compared to the national average of 89.5 percent. The gross college enrollment rate was 7.8 percentage points higher than the national average of 51.6 percent, according to the Department of Education of Anhui Province. Anhui’s education is at the upper middle level in the country, Li Heping, head of the department said. The province is expected to meet the targets for preschool education, compulsory education and senior secondary education for the 13th Five-Year Plan period at the end of this year. It has already met the higher education targets for the period. 1.697 million students graduated from colleges and universities in the province during the period. The initial employment rate of the graduates reached 89 percent, 11 percentage points higher than the national average.
