Nine agricultural products from East China’s Anhui province have been designated as China Protected Geographical Indication Products recently, bringing the total number of the province’s GI products to 101, according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Anhui Province.

The nine new GI products are Taiping Lake bighead carps, Huating Lake bighead carps, Mazhai ginger, Huainan spotted-brown chicken, Sankou oranges, Xijianchunxue tea, Wuhe tea, Fengyang rice and Dianji rice.

The province was home to 29 GI products in 2015. The number rose by 10 in 2017, 17 in 2018 and 20 in 2019.

Anhui ranks 16th in the country this year in terms of number of GI products, up from 23th in 2017.

GI products originate from specific regions, with their quality and characteristics mainly depending on natural ecological environment and historical factors.
