The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), a prestigious university based in east China’s Anhui province, ranked 6th in China and 93rd in the world, according to the latest rankings released on Wednesday by London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Massachusetts Institute of Technology continued to hold the first place for the ninth consecutive year, followed by Stanford University, Harvard University and California Institute of Technology. China has 83 universities in the global top 1, 000, compared with 66 ones last year. Tsinghua University climbed to the 15th spot, while Peking University slipped one notch to 23rd. The USTC took the 93rd place, down four notches from a year ago. The QS rankings are based on six indicators - academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
