The urban-rural income gap of Anhui further narrowed as the per capita disposable income of rural residents in the province reached 8,681 yuan ($1,239) in the first half of this year, up 5.5 percent year on year, while the per capita disposable income of urban residents stood at 19,308 yuan, up 3.5 percent year on year, the provincial government said at a recent press conference.

“Compared with the same period last year, the growth rate of rural residents’ income declined obviously, but it was still 2 percentage points higher than that of urban residents’ income,” said Yang Xinlong from the Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics in Anhui.

The ratio of urban and rural incomes decreased from 2.27 in the same period last year to 2.22, according to Yang.

The narrowing of the urban-rural income gap is largely attributed to the province’s boosting rural economy and promoting agricultural industrialization. (By Li Renjian)
