Anhui’s foreign trade totaled 244.16 billion yuan ($34.91 billion) in the first half of this year, up 9 percent from the same period a year ago, customs data showed.
The province ranked 12th in China and 1st in the Central China region in terms of foreign trade volume in the Jan-Jun period. Meanwhile, it posted the fourth fastest growth rate in the country, according to the Hefei Customs.
Exports reached 139.06 billion yuan, up 6.7 percent, while imports rose 12.2 percent to 105.1 billion yuan.
The province’s foreign trade declined 2.5 percent in the first quarter due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It jumped 20.2 percent in the second quarter.
Exports of mechanical and electrical products stood at 81.48 billion yuan in the first half of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.5 percent. High-tech exports rose 14.4 percent to 384.6 billion yuan. Labor-intensive exports reached 26.56 billion yuan, up 22.5 percent.
Imports of mechanical and electrical products totaled 42.78 billion yuan, up 29.7 percent year-on-year. High-tech imports reached 36.25 billion yuan, up 37.1 percent. Imports of consumer goods surged 50 percent to 9.84 billion yuan.
The Chinese province’s foreign trade with the United States, the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations increased 20.6 percent, 16.7 percent and 6 percent, respectively. Its foreign trade with Japan and the Republic of Korea climbed 20.1 percent and 37.1 percent to hit 20.79 billion yuan and 14.74 billion yuan.
