In the first five months of this year, 136 foreign-funded enterprises were set up in Anhui province, representing a year-on-year increase of 15.3 percent, and the paid-in foreign investment totaled $7.65 billion, up 2.9 percent year-on-year , according to the Department of Commerce of Anhui Province. 113 foreign-funded companies were founded in the Industrial Transfer Demonstration Zone in the Anhui Yangtze River City Belt during the Jan-May period, up 17.7 percent year-on-year. From January to May, the paid-in foreign investment in the province's pharmaceutical industry increased 49.6 percent year-on-year. The paid-in investment in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and bio-medicine grew for the fifth consecutive month. The number of newly settled high-tech companies increased 108.3 percent year-on-year. The paid-in foreign investment in high-tech industries rose 89.5 percent to $200 million.
