Anhui province is expected to take the fourth place in China this year as its food and edible vegetable oil processing output is estimated at 275.0 billion yuan (US$39.4 billion), local authorities said at a press conference on Monday. The province aims to increase the output of the food and edible vegetable oil processing industry to more than 320 billion yuan, raise the food processing rate to 90 percent, and remarkably improve the quality of food and oil by 2022, the Anhui Provincial Food and Strategic Reserves Administration said. The eastern Chinese province has boosted the food industry in recent years as part of its efforts to industrialize agriculture, implement a rural revitalization strategy and build a modern food powerhouse. Statistics showed three food companies in the province registered over 5 billion yuan in annual output value, and 35 ones entered the lists of China’s top 50 and top 10 food enterprises. Local food and oil companies have been awarded 32 Chinese famous brands, 12 geographical indications and 131 Anhui’s well-known trademarks. The province will launch a food and oil brand-building campaign in 2020 with the aim of nurturing a provincial public brand and ten provincial brands and seeing 100 products rated as “China’s Good Food and Oil” and “Anhui’s Good Food and Oil”.
